Canadian Authorities Arrest Khalistani Terrorist Arshdeep Singh Gill Following Violent Shooting
Canadian authorities have arrested designated Khalistani terrorist Arshdeep Singh Gill, alias Arsh Dalla, in connection with a violent shooting incident in Milton, Ontario, according to a report from local Canadian television network CTV.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between India and Canada. Dalla, a close associate of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was involved in several criminal activities and is one of India’s most wanted terrorists. Nijjar was killed outside a Gurudwara in Surrey, Canada, in June 2023. In January 2023, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs designated Dalla as a “terrorist” under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his involvement in multiple targeted killings and extortion activities.
Dalla has been charged in connection with the shooting incident that occurred in Ontario on October 28, according to Adrian Ghobrial’s report on CTV. The India-designated terrorist is expected to appear before a local court in Ontario on Wednesday.
Having arrived in Canada from Punjab in 2018, Dalla lived in Surrey, British Columbia. He is reportedly the head of the Dalla-Lakhbir gang, which authorities allege has used Canada as a base for a violent extortion network targeting Punjab. The Globe and Mail has reported that the gang is accused of running a criminal operation that extends across Canada and India.
Meanwhile, in India, Punjab Police announced on November 10 that they had apprehended two key shooters associated with Dalla. These individuals are believed to have been involved in the murder of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau in Faridkot district last month. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav stated, “Investigations reveal that the accused also killed Jaswant Singh Gill on November 7, 2024, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, under instructions from Arsh Dalla.”
In a related development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Baljeet Singh, a close associate of Dalla, at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in October. Singh, also known as Baljeet Maur, had arrived in India from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was apprehended for his alleged involvement in the criminal network linked to Dalla.
The arrest of Dalla and his associates comes amid heightened diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has publicly stated that he has “credible allegations” suggesting that India may have been involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. India has firmly rejected these claims, calling them “absurd” and “motivated.” The Indian government has also accused Canada of providing a safe haven to extremist elements that are hostile to India.
Earlier this month, India recalled six of its diplomats from Canada after they were named “persons of interest” in the ongoing investigation into Nijjar’s killing. Canada has not yet provided further details about the investigation or the diplomats’ alleged involvement.
