Ferozepur, October 1, 2024: With Panchayat elections underway, tensions escalated when a firing incident was reported at the BDPO office in Ferozepur. Bharat Bhushan, an official at the BDPO office, filed a complaint stating that while he was issuing chulla tax and no-due certificates, 4-5 unidentified men began an altercation with him. The situation turned chaotic when the group snatched Bhushan’s bag containing official documents and fled. As he chased after them, Bhushan reported hearing a gunshot, spotting one of the suspects fleeing in a black Scorpio parked outside the office.
Despite strict pre-election orders for citizens to deposit firearms, the presence of weapons at the scene highlights a failure in compliance, stirring concerns over the law and order situation. The police have registered an FIR against unidentified individuals under various sections of the Arms Act and other charges. Investigations, led by Jang Singh, are ongoing.
Police have also recovered a bullet shell from the scene and are examining it for further leads.
