With another spy nabbed in Ropar earlier today, the Punjab Police have arrested 10 persons from the state, besides helping through inputs in the arrest of six others in Haryana, Himachal Pardesh and Rajasthan in around a month.
Investigators have been exploring connection between six previously arrested spies in Punjab and YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who, according to the Punjab Police, was arrested in Haryana based on intelligence inputs by them. Officials confirmed that the operation relied on extensive human and technical surveillance.
A senior officer said the Punjab Police were making coordinated efforts with Central agencies and state forces to dismantle the espionage network aiding Pakistan’s ISI. Real-time actionable intelligence led to arrests across Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, exposing ISI’s broader conspiracy to threaten national security.
The six persons arrested in other states include Jyoti Rani, alias Jyoti Malhotra, Nauman Ilahi and Devinder Singh in Haryana, Maulvi Kasim and Asim in Rajasthan and Abhishek Bhardwaj in Himachal Pradesh. Authorities identified multiple additional suspects under heightened surveillance to determine their involvement in espionage activities.
The Punjab Police list of arrested spies include Gagandeep Singh from Mohalla Roudpur, Tarn Taran, on June 3, while Jasbir Singh alias Jaan Mahal from Mahlan village in Ropar was taken into custody today. Jasbir was allegedly a close aide of YouTuber Jyoti.
The Malerkotla police arrested Guzala and Yameen Mohammad on May 8 for allegedly passing information about military to Pakistan official Danish at the High Commission in New Delhi. Investigations revealed that Danish had instructed Yameen, a passport and visa agent, to transfer money to Guzala, who received Rs 10,000 from Yameen and Rs 20,000 directly from Danish. Officials found evidence that she forwarded part of funds to other contacts. Authorities secured their remand till May 12 for further inquiries.
On May 12, the Pathankot police arrested salesman Neeraj Kumar (28) for allegedly issuing fraudulent SIM cards, one of which was discovered active in Pakistan before being deactivated. His actions were flagged after a local resident found an unauthorised SIM issued in his name.
The Bathinda police registered an FIR against Rakib, a tailor employed in Bathinda Cantonment, on May 12. Military officials handed him over to the authorities concerned along with two mobile phones suspected of containing sensitive military documents. During interrogation, Rakib admitted to receiving calls and voice messages from Pakistani numbers in January 2025, though he claimed he did not respond. He acknowledged possessing military documents left behind by Army personnel at his shop.
In Gurdaspur, Sukhpreet Singh and Karanbir Singh were arrested for allegedly leaking classified details related to Operation Sindoor. The suspects reportedly transmitted information on troop movements and strategic sites across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir to Pakistan’s ISI.
