Girls outshined boys in CBSE class 12 board exams with over five percentage points, Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj announced on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by the CBSE, 88.39 per cent candidates have cleared the Class 12 board exams.

With 14,96,307 out of 16,29,794 students clearing the exams, the pass percentage stands at 88.39 per cent. This marks a 0.41 per cent increase compared to last year.

In the Chandigarh region, the pass percentage stands at 91.61 per cent.

While girls have achieved a pass percentage of 91.64 per cent, that of boys stood at 85.70 per cent. Transgender candidates have scored 100 per cent pass percentage against last year’s 50 per cent.

The examinations were conducted from February 15 to April 4, with students from 19,299 schools appearing for the Class 12 exams across 7,330 examination centres.

A total of 1,11,544 candidates have scored above 90 per cent marks while 24,867 candidates have scored above 95 per cent marks.

Over 1.29 lakh candidates have been placed in compartment.

As per the National Education Policy 2020, Class 12 students will be allowed to improve their performance in one subject during the supplementary examinations. These exams are scheduled to be held in the first or second week of July 2025.

In 2025, CBSE introduced 50 per cent competency-based questions in the examinations. To help the students for better preparation of the examinations, CBSE released sample question papers.

Teachers were imparted training by the CBSE and the datesheet was issued three months before the start of the examinations.

“All efforts have yielded results in the form of improving the results. This year, the pass percentage of students in class 12 is 88.39%, which is better than the pass percentage of last year i.e. 87.98 per cent. This shows that students were well prepared for competency-based question papers,” CBSE said.
