Congress, BJP demand investigation as MPs cite video evidence implicating Punjab ex-minister Laljit Bhullar; Amit Shah asks Punjab MPs to submit written requests for probe
23 March, 2026 – New Delhi : The Lok Sabha on Monday witnessed demands for a CBI probe into the tragic suicide death of Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, the district manager of Punjab Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah promising a probe and asking Punjab MPs to give a written representation in the matter.
After Congress MP from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aulja flagged the issue during Zero Hour, Shah said all MPs from Punjab could submit the demand for a CBI probe in writing, which he would take up.
Aulja highlighted a video in which the Amritsar warehousing official has held former Punjab minister Laljit Singh Bhullar for his extreme step.
Speaking in the House, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu also raised the issue, saying, “In Punjab, there is the rule of goons, not the law.”
He referred to video evidence showing Randhawa allegedly being threatened by Bhullar to award a warehousing contract to his father or face repercussions.
“The video shows the minister saying if Randhawa does not do the needful, he will get his daughter abducted. This is the first time such a thing has happened,” Bittu said, demanding immediate action so Bhullar does not get an opportunity to leave India.
Both Congress and BJP questioned the AAP government and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for only seeking Bhullar’s resignation.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia had also demanded a CBI probe two days ago, calling the state government’s action “an eyewash.”
Bittu criticised CM Mann, saying, “Bhagwant Mann used to wear a turban in the Lok Sabha in honour of Sardar Bhagat Singh, and today, on the martyrdom day of Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, this tragedy is unfolding in Punjab. The daughters of Randhawa and his wife Upinder Kaur, a teacher, demand justice.”
He dared AAP members in the Lok Sabha to join the demand for a CBI probe into Randhawa’s death and its circumstances.
Randhawa allegedly ended his life on Saturday and a video appeared in which he purportedly claimed harassment by Bhullar and others.
