In an age dominated by keyboards and touchscreens, the graceful art of handwriting is quietly fading into memory. Gone are the days when people proudly flaunted their elegant penmanship, turning every page into a canvas of expression.
To rekindle this lost charm, Government Smart School, Moti Nagar, has introduced calligraphy classes for its students. The initiative not only nurtures aesthetic writing but also instils patience, focus, and creativite skills often overshadowed in the digital rush.
“With kids spending more time on screen, their handwriting has taken a toll. To address this, we have started calligraphy classes at our school. This not only helps in improving the handwriting but also inculcates calmness and patience in the students, which the present generation is missing. Earlier, the students found it difficult to write slowly and patiently but now, they have started enjoying the activity,” Sukhdir Sekhon, principal of the school, said.
“With pens and ink flowing once again, the school is helping young learners rediscover the joy of shaping letters into art, reviving a tradition that speaks of beauty, discipline, and cultural pride. Young minds need a direction and they adopt whatever path is shown to them. I am amazed at the creative skills of the students and now slowly they are also adding their own innovations as they have developed interest,” Kishan Singh, the calligraphy teacher, said.
“Every stroke feels like art in motion. I’m truly enjoying the process of calligraphy. It’s not just an art but something I love. I eagerly wait for my calligraphy classes,” Priyanka, a Class IV student, said.
Another student, Bhoomi, added, “I never imagined I would fall in love with calligraphy this much. The way the letters flow and take shape gives me so much satisfaction, and I feel proud every time I see my progress. It’s a skill I genuinely want to sharpen.”
