The tariff order, announced by the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC), will come into effect from April 1
06 March, 2026 – Chandigarh : In the run-up to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, power tariffs for 2026-27 have been reduced by 50 paise to Rs 1.50 per unit for all categories of consumers in the state. Elections in the state are due in a few months. The overall relief to the power consumers is Rs 7,851.91 crore.
The average cost of supply of power has come down from Rs 7.15 per kWh to Rs 6.15 per kWh. The reduced tariffs will also benefit the government as it curtails the burden of power subsidies.
For the domestic supply, the reduction in power tariff is from 55 paisa to Rs 1.55 per unit; for commercial consumers, the difference in tariff is 50 paise to 79 paisa per unit; and for industrial consumers, the relief varies from 12 paisa to 75 paisa per unit.
The tariff for electric vehicle charging has been reduced to Rs 5 per kVAh, which is the lowest in the country.
“Cross-subsidies have been kept within the ±20 per cent limits in line with the provisions of the National Tariff Policy,” Vishwajit Khanna, chairman of PSERC, told The Tribune.
