15 September, 2025 – Chandigarh : A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a Sikh woman in her 20s, who reported being attacked by two white men in the Tame Road area of Oldbury on September 9.

West Midlands Police confirmed the arrest of a man in his 30s on Sunday evening. He is currently being held in custody on suspicion of rape as investigations continue.

The incident was first reported to police shortly before 8.30 am on Tuesday. Since then, officers have been carrying out extensive enquiries to identify and locate those involved.

Chief Superintendent Kim Madill of Sandwell Police described the arrest as a “significant development” in the case. She thanked the local community for their ongoing support and cooperation, and urged the public not to speculate while the investigation is active.

In response to the incident, members of the Sikh community gathered on Sunday outside the Guru Nanak Gurdwara in Smethwick. Dozens attended the peaceful assembly, offering prayers and support for the victim before visiting the location where the alleged attack occurred.

Among those present was local councillor Parbinder Kaur, who told Sky News she was attending “as a woman, a mother, and a grandmother”.

The victim, who is legally entitled to anonymity, shared a statement through the community group, Sikh Youth UK.
