The word of the Gurus, as inscribed in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, give to the devotee wisdom that can help transcend the challenges posed by life in a mature and spiritual manner. It helps the devotee gain control over emotions and respond to setbacks in a calm and composed manner while keeping complete faith in the Almighty.

We will examine such Gurbani verses lay bare the very essence of life and give us the power to face setbacks with courage and resilience. Such an exercise would mark a great journey towards self-realisation.

Dukh Daru Sukh Rog Bhaia (Suffering is medicine, pleasure brings disease)

In this deeply philosophical thought Guru Nanak implied that obstacles can become solutions, and worldly pleasures can be a sickness. In our journey through life, we encounter challenges that can either hinder our progress or propel us towards success. The choice is ours.

Ninda Bhalri Kahu Ki Nahi  (Let’s not criticize others)

When faced with obstacles, we can choose to build a wall or construct a bridge. Every setback presents an opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow. By embracing this mind set, we transform obstacles into catalysts for success. Criticism and negative feedback can be valuable tools for growth, but only if we learn to receive them constructively.

Hum Nahi Changae Bura Nahi Koi (I am not good, nor are others bad)

The essence of this deep philosophy is that the fault lies with the person and none else. Developing emotional maturity is crucial for achieving success. When we can listen to negative comments without losing our temper or confidence, we’ve reached a milestone. This ability to remain composed under pressure allows us to focus on our goals, rather than getting distracted by criticism. By taking ownership of our mistakes and weaknesses, we can work towards self-improvement and personal growth.

Nischay Kar Aapni Jeet Karoon (Make a resolve and win)

Success should be the mission of every human being. Instead of seeking external validation, convince yourself that you’ve done the best you can. Self-validation is the key to unlocking true success. When we’re confident in our abilities and decisions, we pursue our passions with unwavering dedication, leading to genuine fulfilment and achievement. By setting clear goals and working towards them with determination, we can overcome even the most daunting obstacles.

As Guru Nanak guides us, “Nanak Satgur Bhatiya Puri Hove Jugat” – the Guru teaches us to live a joyful life and attain salvation while remaining untouched by worldly temptations, like a lotus flower in muddy water. By cultivating a positive mind-set and staying focused on our goals, we can navigate life’s challenges with ease and grace.

In conclusion, success is not about avoiding obstacles but about learning to navigate them effectively. By turning stones into bridges, cultivating emotional maturity, and practicing self-validation, we’ll achieve our goals and live a life of purpose. Remember, it’s not what happens to us that matters, but how we respond that defines our journey to success.

Let’s embark on this journey together, embracing obstacles as opportunities for growth and self-improvement. With the wisdom of the Gurus guiding us, we can overcome any challenge and achieve true success and fulfilment.
