The Punjab Pulse Condolence Message
Chandigarh, 22 August – The Punjab Pulse deeply condoles the sad and untimely demise of the great son of Punjab, Jaswinder Bhalla.
Jaswinder Bhalla was born on 4 May 1960 in Ludhiana. He pursued B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Agriculture at the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana and obtained his Ph.D. from Chaudhary Charan Singh Post Graduate College, Meerut. He was absorbed in his alma mater, the Punjab Agricultural University, as an Assistant Professor and rose to become a Head of the Department.
Jaswinder Bhalla developed an interest in acting and comedy during his student days and pursued his interest along with his profession as an academician. In 1975, he performed with his friends for All India Radio.
In 1988 Jaswinder and his college friend, Bal Mukund Sharma, initiated the “Chhankata” series and became household names. He introduced many memorable characters such as Chacha Chatar Singh, Bhana the NRI, JB, and Taya Fumhan Singh.
Jaswinder Bhalla entered Punjabi cinema with the film “Dulla Bhatti” and became one of the most popular actor of the Punjabi film industry in comedy roles. His work in films like Carry on Jatta, Jatt & Juliet, Mr. & Mrs. 420, Daddy Cool Munde Fool, Golak Bugni Bank Te Batua and many others has left an indelible impression on all Punjabis worldwide. His comedy albums, stage shows, and movie roles made him one of the most loved entertainers in Punjab.
Jaswinder Bhalla has made a deep impact on the cultural landscape of Punjab with his clean humourous content that resonates the cultural values of the region.
The contribution of Jaswinder Bhalla to Punjab has also been duly acknowledged by the Global Punjabi Association. The association remembers, with great respect, the many meetings held with him to work out methodologies to resurrect good, clean and happy culture in Punjab.
