27 May, 2021 – Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has put Punjab on notice on a 344-page petition for stopping of “illegal” mining going on in the periphery areas and certain villages of Ropar district.
Taking up the petition filed by Sudhesh Kumari and other petitioners through senior advocate VK Jindal with Akshay Jindal, the Bench of Justice Ajay Tewari and Justice Rajesh Bhardwaj also issued a notice regarding stay to the state and other respondents. The notices came after the petitioners claimed that the process was illegal, unjust, arbitrary and was endangering the lives of the villagers. It was also endangering agriculture process and the environment.
Directions were also sought to the respondents to stop the process of de-silting the Sutlej, the Beas and the Ravi, along with seasonal rivulet of the Ghaggar and the Chakki, without holding due auction process.
